ABOUT THE EVENT
The Fast of Esther is held on the day prior to Purim and was established to commemorate the fasting of the Jewish people that occurred during their exile from the Persian empire. These events are recorded in the Book of Esther which is read each year on Purim. The fast is not one of the four public fasts ordained by the prophets and therefore, people are more lenient in its observance.
