GENERAL
The Kashi Hallegua House, also known as Krathi Veedu, is one of the oldest Jewish synagogues in India located in Kochi, also known as Cochin. The synagogue was built in 1568 by the Paradesi Jews, a group of Jewish immigrants from Spain and Portugal who settled in Kochi during the 16th century. The Kashi Hallegua House was used by the community to host the party for Sukkah or Festival of Tabernacles and the Simah Torah or Rejoicing of the Torah (scrolls). It was also the place for the bridegroom to dress for the wedding. The synagogue serves as an important cultural landmark, reminding visitors of the rich cultural heritage of the Jewish community in Kochi.
