The Chez Yvonne winstub has been carrying on the tradition of Alsatian winstubs since 1873 and strives to offer quality traditional cuisine.
Following the war of 1870, Alsace was annexed by Germany. The Germans then meet in Bierstubs and drink beer; in contrast, Alsatians meet in Winstubs and drink wine!
Our Winstub was created by Eugène Jacquemet in 1873 under the name S’Burjerstuewel. He will operate his Winstub until the 1920s.
In 1956 Yvonne Haller bought the Winstub, devoted all her energy to it and little by little, S’Burjerstuewel became “Chez Yvonne”. She becomes one of the most famous figures of the Alsatian capital. After 45 years of hard work, she will finally retire in 2001, ceding the restaurant to Jean-Louis De Valmigère, who will preserve all the soul of the place and continue to develop its reputation. Ten years after its takeover, he passed it on to his children, Marjolaine and Julien, who took over the reins with passion and energy.
A new page in history is being written in 2021 alongside the Burrus family and Cédric Moulot, a well-known figure in Strasbourg and a great lover of Winstub. Once again, the desire is to be part of the extension of this rich heritage, and to preserve the history and the well-known traditions of the place. If the torch changes family, Yvonne remains Chez Yvonne: an emblematic restaurant, with a unique atmosphere, belonging above all to the history of Alsace and the people of Strasbourg.
