Pasticceria Boccione

Pasticceria Boccione is a kosher bakery in the Roman Ghetto. Established in 1815 by the Limentani family, Boccione is best known for its cherry and ricotta tart and Pizza Ebraica, a sweet bread filled with toasted almonds, candied ginger, marzipan, pine nuts, egg, maraschino cherries and raisins. A small, unmarked store on the area’s main street, The New York Times described Boccione’s crostata as the “best in Rome.” The Pizza Ebraica is reportedly Pope Benedict XVI’s favorite dessert.

Yotvata

Yotvata was born from the idea of the owner Marco Sed, who was inspired by the chain of the homonymous restaurant in Israel, well known and appreciated by Israelis and tourists. It is the only kosher milk restaurant in Rome that produces its cheeses. The cuisine of Yotvata follows the Roman Jewish tradition, inherited from our grandmothers who already delighted the palates a hundred years ago with the Giudia artichoke, the courgette tanning, the anchovies with the endive and the vegetable fries. The restaurant applies strict kosher standards, a term that literally means “suitable” and indicates all foods allowed for Jewish consumption, guaranteeing the wholesomeness and quality of the raw materials that our chefs make into wonderful foods.

Bechor and Shoshi

Standing its ground for already 35 years, Bechor Et Shoshi is a Libyan delight. Bechor and his daughter Shoshi prepare an array of authentic dishes, exploring different flavors every day. For the brave and the persuasive, Shoshi may just delve into her cookbook to prepare some of her original and exotic dishes. It is recommended to arrive early though, so as not to miss out on the daily specials!

Bahadones

Bahadones was not nicknamed ‘the-best-hummus-a Jewish-person-can-prepare’ for no reason! For more than 30 years, this hummus hot-spot has flourished, expanding throughout several cities in central Israel. However, as the old saying goes, nothing compares to the original!

Hapikud Bakery

In the heart of the Beer Sheva market, lies an 80’s style bakery that has been there since just then. In 1979, Umi and the other Kalman brothers began making bourekas, hot and fresh. At Bourekas Umi- Mafiat Ha’Pikud, one can find typical fillings such as cheese, spinach and potatoes. Umi’s slogan is that ‘Even when it comes to bourekas, one needs to know how to make them just right’, and this bakery certainly lives up to that motto!

Since 1952, Beit Ha’Ful has become a well known name on the streets of Beer Sheva. This community hangout is run by Ya’akov Bitton, who is the second generation of founders of the restaurant. Beit Ha’Ful is a drop-in for all types of people, attracting factory workers who come for something tasty to eat during a break, amongst intellectuals, who arrive for the quality food and relaxed atmosphere. The signature dish of this authentic Egyptian kitchen is, of course, hummus with a healthy dose of extra hot and juicy ful (fava beans).
