Stephen Burstin

Before working as a tour guide, Stephen worked as a journalist with multiple national newspapers. Stephen worked for three years as an independent guide in Rome where he lead tours in the Jewish Ghetto, the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, and the Ostia Antica. He was born in the East End of London, and at eight years old began researching his Jewish roots in London. This early interest in his Jewish roots has led Stephen to where he is today, as he continues to conduct several Jewish-themed tours in London.

Leading tours is not just his livelihood, but also his passion. Stephen leads tours for families exploring Jewish London, schools whose students are learning about different cultures and religions, and even social clubs who might want to take an educational outing to the Old Jewish Quarter. 

For the fifth year in a row, Stephen was awarded a Certificate of Excellence and TripAdvisor has welcomed him and his tours into their own Trip Advisor Hall of Fame. Stephen also won the title, Cultural Tour Guide of the Year, by the Luxury Travel Guides in 2017. He is excited to share his knowledge and enthusiasm about the fascinating history and rich Jewish heritage of London during his explorations with you.

Private Walking Tour: Cannaregio and the Jewish Ghetto

The Cannaregio & Jewish Ghetto Walking tour takes you off the beaten path through the district of Cannaregio where not many tourists visit. You’ll pass palaces, churches, beautiful canals, and bridges as you make your way to the heart of the Cannaregio district where the Jewish Ghetto lies. You will discover homes of famous Venetians and enjoy breathtaking views of the northern lagoon where you will learn about the role the lagoon played in the history of Venice.

From the Cannaregio district, the second half of the tour will be exploring the famous Jewish Ghetto, a city within a city. You will learn about the Jewish community that lived here for several centuries and their role in the history of Venice. Entrances to the Jewish museum and synagogues are not included in the tour, but they can be visited after the tour because the tour finishes nearby in the Jewish Ghetto.

Cannaregio District and the Jewish Ghetto

In the Cannaregio distrcit, one of the oldest districts in Venice, sits the Jewish Ghetto. This district isn’t known to many tourists, but it’s a charming place to visit and holds so much history. On this tour you will visit the Campo del Ghetto Nova where you will learn about the history of the Jewish Ghetto and how for years it was an important reference point for the European Jewish community. You will also see the outsides of several synagogues, visit Ghetto Vecchio, and explore several other hidden treasures in Cannaregio district.

Campo SS. Apostoli- Venice Through the Centuries North

Nothing compares to learning about a city from a personal guide, especially the crowded city of Venice. This tour allows you to see the best of what Venice has to offer and is a great tour to start off a vacation because you will gain useful travel tips, food suggestions, and site recommendations. On the Campo SS Apostoli tour, you get receive a great introduction to the history of Venice, learn about its main sights, hear stories about some famous Venetians, and learn about several other topics. This tour will cover the eastern part of Cannaregio district and the western part of Castello district.

🌍 Celebrating One Year of the Jewish Silk Road Portal

World Jewish Travel was thrilled at #IMTM 2024 to present a copy of the WJT Jewish Silk Road Pressbook to the CEO of the Azerbaijan National Tourism Board Florian Sengstschmid and Jamilya Talibzade its Israeli representative Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB).

The Pressbook celebrates the one year anniversary of the Jewish Silk Road Portal launch, an amazing example of using Jewish travel as a means of cultural diplomacy, whilst highlighting the significant Jewish contribution to the ancient trade route. Kudos to our participating partners from the Kiriaty Foundation (Turkey), National Board of Tourism of #Georgia, National Board of Tourism of #Uzbekistan, and Israeli Embassy of #India.
