Maasai Trail Trek, Tanzania – Kosher and Shomer Shabbos

Trek through the wild African bush, home to several Maasai communities. Perhaps the most revered of the great African nomadic tribes, the Maasai are the fiercest of warriors, but struggle to retain their modest lifestyle in modern times.

Along with our local guides, you will be led by Maasai guides. Your journey begins from the bottom of Mt. Longido (2,590m), trekking across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to the foothills of the Crater Highlands.

Expect to be captivated by the beauty of this incredible region, otherwise known as “the Cradle of Mankind”. The spectacular route passes Mt. Kitumbeine, the game-filled plains of Nagarirat and the escarpment of the Rift Valley

During the trek you will be walking for up to 22 kms a day. Depending on the weather and the day, rest/water stops will be set up regularly, where you can regroup, rest and relax while drinking water and eating your snacks. Lunch will be a packed lunch in a beautiful location. You will get to your campsite in the afternoon where you can relax, wash, have a drink and eat your dinner. This trek takes place in the wild African bush – home to several Maasai communities. Terrain will be a variation of dry and bumpy along the way

Camping throughout the trek will be in large deluxe two person tents. There will be toilet and shower tents, an awning for restaurant and a small bush bar selling drinks and bottled water. Maasai warriors will guard and guide your group in partnership with our support crew of qualified guides, camp team and drivers. At the end of the trek, you will be staying in more comfortable accommodation in a hotel.

Gokyo Ri Trek, Nepal

The Gokyo Lakes Trek is a good alternative to the Everest Base Camp Trek.

This jewel of a trek will take you to the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Valley, away from the crowds on their way to Everest Base Camp, in Sagarmatha National Park.

The Gokyo Ri Trek is considered the best place to take a look at the high Himalayan mountain ranges, with the soaring views of the most popular mountains in Nepal, at an altitude of 8000m such as Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu.

It leads up the valley west of Everest to the village of Gokyo and to the five sacred lakes on the moraine next to the Ngozumpa glacier. This spectacular hike, which is almost as high as the Everest Base Camp, offers breathtaking views of Everest, but the trails are less crowded and quieter. You will pass traditional Sherpa villages where you will be served local food.

The Gokyo Lakes are actually made up of six bodies of water, or lakes, located at an altitude of 4700 to 5000m in the Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Valley falls within the Sagarmatha National Park area. They are the world’s highest freshwater lake system and have been designated as a Ramsar site (wetlands of international importance) and sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists.

Gorilla Hike, Rwanda – Kosher and Shomer Shabbos

Tracking Rwanda’s mountain gorilla remains one of the most moving, life changing experiences.

Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda is a small and beautiful country. Its sweeping grasslands rise up from the plains and lakes of the eastern borders to meet a mountain range that runs north to south, which make Rwanda an excellent luxury safari and holiday destination. Intermittently broken up by plateaus and highland, it is a crucial source of water for both the Congo and the Nile.

Volcanoes National Park is part home to Rwanda’s Virunga Mountains and possibly the best place in the world for mountain gorilla trekking. It is Africa’s oldest park and as such makes for an extraordinary experience.

Rwanda is home to more than 60% of the World’s mountain gorilla and the country has managed to slightly increase this number in recent years, despite well-documented difficulties it has faced.

Requiring only that you are moderately fit, your gorilla trekking will begin early in the morning, and can take anything from one to eight hours. Accompanied by gorilla guide, an armed ranger, in accordance with park regulations you will spend an hour in the company of the gorillas.

Yam L’ Yam, Israel

The Yam L’ Yam Hike (Sea to Sea) is one of the most popular hiking trails in Israel literally crossing the country from west to east, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sea of Galilee, crossing some of Israel’s most beautiful scenery in the Western Galilee and Upper Galilee regions. The Sea to Sea hike is walked by thousands of Israelis and tourists every year, and takes between three to five days depending on how fast you walk, along marked scenic trails.

The trail starts in the city of Nahariya on Israel’s Mediterranean Coast, in the Western Galilee region of the country and heads directly inland through the flat Coastal Plain, and the fields belonging to kibbutzim and moshavim who grow a huge variety of crops. As the Coastal Plain is left behind, the terrain begins to pick up and the final glimpse of the first sea (the Mediterranean) is left behind. You will pass the Montfort Fortress. Heading from Abirim, the trail continues east until the village of Fassuta, when it turns south winding its way past the villages of Elkosh and Hurfesh and towards Mount Meron. Following this is largely the descent down to the Sea of Galilee (the lowest freshwater lake on earth!) passing the famous city of Safed and ending on the shores of the Sea of Galilee just north of Kibbutz Ginosar.

The hike is a total of approx. 90km starting at sea level, climbing to 1,200 meters, and then descending to -210 meters.

Whilst you can do the hike all-year-round, the nicest times are spring and fall – temperatures in the summer can be incredibly high. If taking this trail during the hot season, close attention must be made to the temperature and advice should be taken from the Park Rangers.
