Jewish Book Week

Jewish Book Week is an annual international literary festival, held in London. Every year, the festival brings together writers and speakers – from the most eminent to the first-time published – from the worlds of history, journalism, philosophy, science, art, music, poetry and fiction in a celebration of ideas.

The festival features Jewish themes and writers, as well as discussions on the most important issues of the day, and is open to everyone. Over eighty events are presented during the festival itself. A number of special events are also organised over the course of the year, outside the festival period. Jewish Book Week is organised by the Jewish Book Council, a registered UK charity.

Limmud Festival

Limmud Festival is a pioneering festival of Jewish learning. It’s a place for community, learning, discovery, empowerment, diversity, debate, laughing, dancing, families, volunteering. Limmud Festival is a place for you to discover something new.

Limmud is thrilled to have been able to bring people together again as a community of learning, despite the ongoing pandemic, for a programme of over 300 diverse, inspiring and thought-provoking sessions.

The core team of 16 dedicated volunteers led the way in creating Festival 2021 alongside the efforts of 1 in 4 participants who contributed their time, to provide the Limmud community with another fantastic event for participants of all ages.

The five-day event (including programming before and after Shabbat) saw sessions from 367 presenters on subjects from the topical – such as current political issues and impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the community, to the niche – such as shmita laws for Jews in the Diaspora and the Jolles Encyclopaedia of British Jewish cantors, chazanim, ministers and synagogue musicians.

The event welcomed political speakers David Lammy MP, Councillor Carla Denyner, and former MK Aliza Lavie, alongside performers including Chava Mirel, Joanie Leeds and The Macaroons. In addition, the programme featured 27 sessions from European Limmud volunteers spotlighting 15 different communities.

Ladino Festival

The International Ladino Festival, a celebration that connects the history of the city to the present and the future, includes three days of performances, street musicians, free tours, and authentic culinary performances.

Acre International Fringe Theatre Festival

The Acre Festival of Alternative Israeli Theatre, also known as the Acre Fringe Theatre Festival or Israel Fringe Theatre Festival, is a four-day performing arts festival held annually in the city of Acre, Israel during the Intermediate Days of the Sukkot holiday in early autumn.

The Festival was Founded in 1980, and it features a competition for original plays that premier during the festival, along with local and foreign theatre productions, street theatre and open-air performances. There are also concerts, arts and crafts workshops, and lectures.

The majority of the Festival’s plays come from outside the mainstream of establishment Israeli theatre, some having avantgarde characteristics and subjects giving outlet to their creators’ personal statements. Some combine media and genres such as pantomime, clowning, video, dance, and performance art rarely seen in the conventional theatre. Many are staged in historic venues within the Old City of Acre, such as its Crusader-era citadel and knights’ halls that have undergone conservation.

The Festival has been produced by the Municipality of Acre since the year 2000. It is supported by the Israel Ministry of Culture, the Old Acre Development Company and overseas philanthropic foundations. The Acre Festival has become a symbol of coexistence between the city’s Jewish and Arab inhabitants. Each year’s program features works by Arab playwrights and troupes along with performances by music ensembles. Performance projects led by theatre professionals provide training for local Arab and Jewish teens, including immigrant youth.

The Festival has been postponed and scaled down twice due to interethnic disturbances: during the October 2000 events of the Second Intifada, and in 2008 due to the Yom Kippur riots, after which the Festival was held during the Hanukkah holiday week.

Izmir Sephardic Culture Festival

Celebrating the cultural legacy of the city of Izmir and the Sephardic community, which since the 16th century has been an important component of the ethnic mosaic of today’s Konak district area. There will be interesting tours, talks, film screenings, concerts and more during the festival.

Safed Klezmer Festival

Safed Klezmer Festival: A One-of-a-Kind Musical Event in the Galilee

Taking place in the mystical, hilltop city of Safed, the Safed Klezmer Festival brings a different type of energy to a place known as the birthplace of Kabbalah. The free, 3-day festival is a celebration of Klezmer music, a genre rooted in the traditions, culture, and heritage of Ashkenazi Jews in Eastern Europe.

Launched in 1988, the event features open-air stages throughout the city’s squares, courtyards, and winding alleyways. Safed comes alive with the sounds that define Klezmer; clarinets and violins weave bright melodies, while accordions, bass, brass, and more add depth.

Beyond the music, the family-friendly festival offers a variety of experiences throughout the day. Visitors can take part in daytime workshops, browse the galleries in Safed’s Artists Quarter, or simply get lost in the historic alleys. As the sun sets, performances begin to fill the air, and local cafes stay open late, providing a space for people to relax (or dance) and soak in the vibe. It’s a unique opportunity to experience a centuries-old Jewish musical tradition in one of Israel’s most historic cities.

IAC National Summit

The IAC National Summit 2021 takes place on December 9th-11th 2021, at the Diplomat Beach Resort, South Florida. The summit brings together a diverse group of thousands of Israeli-Americans, Jewish Americans, and Israelis for critical dialogue, and inspiring sessions as part of an event that shapes the Jewish communal conversation, year after year.

One of the most high-profile and largest gatherings in the Jewish world, The IAC National Summit features change makers and thought leaders across a range of fields, from business and philanthropy, to education, language and community building, technology, and social change.

Jerusalem Jazz Festival

The Jerusalem Jazz Festival features a rich range of original productions, premieres, one-off musical collaborations, surprising mini shows, improvisations, and conversations with musicians, giving a new perspective to the artworks displayed throughout the museum. The artistic program reflects the variety of styles that comprise the contemporary jazz world, from world music, through hip hop, rock, groove, to supersonic jazz, and free jazz, classical chamber music, big band arrangements and more. The original productions were inspired by the artworks in the museum while other productions adapted the show in response to this creative space. This has led to a three-way dialogue between music, art, and cultural consumers.

This year, the festival focuses on original Israeli music from a wide range of styles. The extraordinary encounter between music and art, the festival’s inspiring hallmark from day one, continues to be a central pillar of the artistic program, with several different shows taking place throughout the museum’s magical sculpture garden every evening.

The 7th Jerusalem Jazz Festival, created by the Israel Festival in partnership with Israel Museum, and under the artistic direction of international trumpeter Avishai Cohen, will take place alongside the Israel Festival on 22-24.6.21, in the magical Sculpture Garden of the Israel Museum.

Holiday of Holidays

The Holiday of Holidays, also known as Chag HaChagim in Hebrew, is an annual celebration of Haifa’s religious and cultural diversity. This event is held every December to mark the Hanukkah, Christmas, and Ramadan holidays for Jews, Christians, and Muslims living peacefully together in Haifa.

It includes food stands, antique fairs, arts and crafts fairs, music, circuses, and street celebrations.

The festival is an initiative of Beit Ha’Gefen – Arab-Jewish Cultural Center, and the Haifa Municipality, which was founded in 1993 and takes place in Beit Ha’Gefen and Wadi Nisnas and the German Colony in Haifa.

The aim of the festival is to promote and foster tolerance and mutual respect through culture and art.

The festival presents art exhibitions, artist meetings, and various performances with an emphasis on cultural diversity in Haifa and Israel.

The works are displayed both in the public space – the alleys of the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood coming to the German Colony, Haifa, and in the Beit Hagefen Gallery and this year also on billboards throughout the Hadar neighborhood – a special exhibition by Haifa artists!

The Holiday of Holidays festival is the culmination of the year of activity at Beit Ha’Gefen, and is designed in the spirit of the values of Beit Ha’Gefen.
Our activities are based on the belief that interpersonal acquaintance and encounter with another culture, its stories, cultural and spiritual assets, are important for breaking down barriers and building trust between different nationalities, ethnic and religious groups in Haifa and Israel.
