Introduction to Machane Yehuda Market

Jerusalem’s famous Machane Yehuda Shuk open market is bustling with activity day and night.

During the day this is a popular site for shopping for fresh produce, vegetables, fish, meat, and dairy products as well as multiple options for Israeli street food, Falafel, shwarma, and others. In the evening the Shuk takes on an additional “personality” and becomes one of Jerusalem’s most exciting nightlife locations with endless choices of restaurants and bars filling the place of the fruit stands that have closed down for the night. You have to see it to understand. After hours of work by street artists who have painted the doors of the shops with hundreds of graffiti murals including portraits of many Israeli and international historical figures.

On this tour, we will hear the stories and learn the unique history of the Shuk and enjoy the special culture of this place.  Food tasting available for additional cost.

Organized trip to Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, which markets itself to tourists as the “Land of Fire”, is a tangle of contradictions and contradictions. at the seam between Europe and Asia. A country of dusty desert in the shadow of the Caspian Sea and at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains. The cordial hospitality and the flavors of the local cuisine will put a smile on the face of every traveler in Azerbaijan. A comprehensive trip that includes: a full program from morning to evening (except for flight days), according to the trip plan.

Carmel Market tasting tour

Explore Kerem Hateymanim neighborhood and Carmel Market area, the most vibrant area of Tel Aviv, through your taste buds.

On the tour, we’ll talk about the history, heritage, and culture of the area on one hand, and on the other hand,  all of the new trendy places the market has to offer and the changes happening. We’ll taste traditional dishes from Yemenite cuisine and the most innovative dishes that the market has to offer.

You’ll walk through the Kerem HaTeimanim neighborhood and the Carmel Market in a small group, trying out a variety of dishes and meeting locals that live and work at the market, with stops at off-the-beaten-path spots that are loved by locals but not necessarily known by tourists.

The tour takes about 2.5-3 hours and includes 8-10 tastings of different food and drinks (can easily suit Vegans and Vegetarians).

Train Touristique

This is an original and entertaining way of exploring the town of Obernai during your stay. The guided tour comes with individual headsets and is translated into 14 languages. The tour takes roughly 40 minhutes and leave approximately once per hour. The train has 60 seats, with handicap access for 2 wheelchairs. Group reservations have priority.

The tour train runs every day from April to October.

Sighet Walking Tours

Although a small city, Sighet is quite picturesque, situated in the heart of the very authentic Maramures Region of Northern Romania. Embraced by two rivers, the Iza and the Tisa, The Hungarian meaning of “Sighet” is island. Roughly half of Sighet’s population was Jewish before May 1944, when deportations to Auschwitz started taking place. The numerous traces of Sighet’s Jewish past tell a remarkable story about the city’s origins and it’s importance as a major cultural hub for various Jewish schools and traditions.

Tarbut Foundation is offering guided historical tours through the city to all known and hidden Jewish sites. You can find out more about some of Sighet’s Jewish sites and history on our Sighet page dedicated to the city. While any tourist coming to Sighet can walk through the points mentioned, a guided one day Tour will include more sites and in depth historical background information. We very much recommend it!
