Monument to the Negev Brigade

Memorial
SITE OVERVIEW

The Monument to the Negev Brigade honors the courageous men and women of the Palmach Negev Brigade who gave their lives during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Sitting above Be’er-Sheva, in the heart of the Negev Desert, the monument’s raw, grey concrete structure stands starkly against the endless desert, a silent testament to their sacrifice. Designed by the renowned artist Dani Karavan, the monument reflects both a clear artistic vision as well as a heavy historical importance. A visit here is often filled with introspection and remembrance.

A 70-foot-tall tower reaches upwards to the sky in a strikingly powerful way, standing as a symbol representing the Palmach and the broader war. The names of over 300 soldiers who lost their lives in the war are engraved in the memorial’s concrete base. Bible verses, poignant passages from soldiers’ diaries, a detailed battle registry, and the badge of the Palmach are also etched into the stone, forever marking a legacy that stays ever-relevant to modern times.

For any tourist with an interest in the history of Israel, and especially those of Jewish faith, the Monument to the Negev Brigade is a must-visit. Despite the monument’s massive size, it is frequently a quiet, peaceful place to get away from the crowds. Everyone who visits here walks away with a profound sense of connection to the history, resilience, and sacrifice that shaped the nation of Israel.

🌍 Celebrating One Year of the Jewish Silk Road Portal

World Jewish Travel was thrilled at #IMTM 2024 to present a copy of the WJT Jewish Silk Road Pressbook to the CEO of the Azerbaijan National Tourism Board Florian Sengstschmid and Jamilya Talibzade its Israeli representative Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB).

The Pressbook celebrates the one year anniversary of the Jewish Silk Road Portal launch, an amazing example of using Jewish travel as a means of cultural diplomacy, whilst highlighting the significant Jewish contribution to the ancient trade route. Kudos to our participating partners from the Kiriaty Foundation (Turkey), National Board of Tourism of #Georgia, National Board of Tourism of #Uzbekistan, and Israeli Embassy of #India.

See the overwhelming reaction from the press, by downloading our free pressbook. Special thanks to Moshe Gilad of the @haaretzcom for highlighting this forgotten but important story in the Galeria section of the newspaper and available to download on WJT.
