Emily

Emily creates tailor-made tours based on your interest in hopes of helping you make the most out of your holiday or time in Budapest. She offers tours in a variety of languages and can even provide a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan to travel to further locations such as Vienna or other neighboring historic towns. She has experience with kids from working in schools, is happy to accommodate to the older adult population who might have difficulty walking, and is always willing to explore the city on foot for the athletic travelers. 

Whether you are interested in the city’s general history, a specific site, art, or Hungarian food, Emily will make sure you end her tour with all your questions answered. She can take you on a sightseeing tour to some of the city’s top sites such as the Basilica, Parliament, Andrassy Avenue, Opera, Chain Bridge, Matthias Church, and Danube Corso. Some of her other specialty tours include a Jewish tour in the city center, city lights tour, extended Budapest tour (5-8 hours), Lake Balaton and Herend tour, Danube tour, Szentendre tour, and Art Nouveau tour. Pest Buda Bistro & Hotel

The building that is now the Pest Buda Bistro & Hotel was built in 1696 as a mansion and has since been converted into a luxurious 10-room hotel. Over the years, this building has served as a tavern and restaurant and it even served as the first hotel in Hungary. At Pest Buda Bistro & Hotel, upscale modernity meets country-house comfort while maintaining an urban atmosphere in the historic building.  

Many people simply drop by for an evening meal at the hotel’s restaurant, but those who stay at the quaint hotel have given it outstanding reviews for the helpful staff, charming atmosphere, and amazing location.  Just a few minutes walk from the hotel gets you to the Buda Castle neighborhood where you’ll find incredible food and famous sites and monuments such as the Royal Palace and the Mathias Church. Baltazar Budapest

Baltazár Budapest is a family owned boutique hotel located in the World Heritage Buda Castle district. While the hotel has a Hungarian Grill Restaurant and Wine Bar, the neighborhood around the hotel is one of the city’s gastronomic hubs packed with unique cafes and restaurants. At the hotel’s Baltazar Grill, you’ll find a wonderful selection of meats, vegetarian options, and local wines, but for serious wine fans, the Wine Bar is where you want to be. The history of this cozy hotel is quite interesting, as it began by coincidence when the owner stumbled across the building in search of a home for his family. This man always had a passion for design and the beautiful architecture of the building inspired him to build a dream hotel which over the years, transformed into a prestigious boutique hotel.

Iconic artwork and vintage furniture fill the hotel and each room has it’s own theme and style. Don’t get too caught up in the beauty of the hotel because you’ll get a spectacular panoramic view of the Danube while walking the historic streets of the Buda Castle. You will also come across famous monuments and historic landmarks such as the Royal Palace and the Mathias Church. This hotel gives you the comfort of home in a beautiful neighborhood to explore.

Bohem Art Hotel

Bohem Art Hotel is located in the 5th district and was built in the 17th century. From 1884 to 1894, the building was owned by a famous proprietor, Manfréd Weiss. The Szénásy Írószer és Körzőgyár (stationery factory), which was built in 1903, was also in this building and the factory’s owner, Béla Szénásy, was a stationery wholesaler, the creator of Hungarian paper industry and trade, and the originator of the Budapest International Industry Fair. The factory was famous for its 1944 production of the Schutpasses which was the Swedish legation to protect the Jews during in the Second World War.

The hotel has several services to make your stay as comfortable as possible including airport transfer, a cocktail bar, a deluxe buffet breakfast, laundry and ironing services, happy hours with free coffee, tea, and snacks, and flatscreen TVs with movies and international news channels. The building that is now Casati Budapest Hotel is more than 200 years old and has been beautifully refurbished into a contemporary city gem. Prestige Hotel Budapest

Prestige Hotel Budapest is located in the heart of the city center and offers an exceptional combination of stunning architecture, a peaceful atmosphere, and amazing cuisine. The building itself was built in the 1860s for residential use and was later used as an office building. In 2004 the yards were demolished and in 2014, the hotel development began with plans to maintain the original values of the building while adding a modern and elegant style. Olive Tree

Olive Tree is a cozy restaurant in Budapest’s District VI, serving a variety of traditional Israeli, Hungarian, and Ukrainian dishes. Their goal is to bring the wonderful flavors of Jerusalem to Budapest for locals and tourists to enjoy. The founders of Olive Tree chose hummus as their primary dish because of its health benefits and the way it compliments several other dishes such as falafel and salad. At Olive Tree, you can choose from 16 hummus entrees or one of their other Middle Eastern falafel or shakshuka dishes.

Everything on their menu is made with fresh and real ingredients for both the taste and health benefits. You will also find many vegan and gluten-free options, making it a perfect stop for anyone looking for authentic Israeli cuisine. The interior is simple, yet cozy, and the menu is well priced for the high-quality flavors and ingredients. If you are a hummus fan, Olive Tree will give you a new way to explore this Middle Eastern dish.

 

Mazal Tov

Mazel Tov is located in the city center’s 7th district, in the middle of the historical Jewish quarter. The restaurant provides an urban, casual and comfortable feeling filled with herbs and trees that allows you to dine in a garden-like atmosphere. Sometimes guests get lucky and come when one of the local bands is performing, which adds even more to the already cozy vibe of the restaurant.

It is recommended to start off your meal here with one of their amazing starters, either the sweet potato wedges with pesto tahini or their homemade za’tar flavored pita chips. For the next course, they have several options from classic shakshuka and hummus plates to quinoa tabbouleh salad and falafel sandwiches. Mazal Tov also serves a wide variety of wines, beer, cocktails, and liquor, making sure there is something for everyone.

Dobrumba

The cuisine served at Dobrumba is inspired by several cultures and incorporates flavors from the Middle East, the Mediterranean and the Caucasus. Some of the menu items you will find include baba ganoush, shawarma, shakshuka, Moroccan beetroot, labneh, and pomegranate chicken liver. One of the best things about Dobruma is their unique twists to traditional Middle Eastern dishes. While they offer a traditional hummus, they also have a spicy paprika hummus, a warm hummus dish, and even a butternut squash hummus that has become a house favorite. 

It’s hard to come here and not fill up on their delightful entrees, but try and save room for dessert because you don’t want to miss out on the famous Basboussa or tahini brownie. The Basboussa is the most popular dessert item and consists of a Levante semolina cake with orange blossom syrup, toasted almosts, and thick yogurt. If you’re one of the many people who prefer a rich chocolate flavor, the vegan tahini brownie will not disappoint.

Dobrumba always tries to cater to those with dietary restrictions by providing gluten free bread and several vegan options. If you find yourself in Budapest’s 7th district, make sure to make a stop at Dobruma for some of the best Middle Eastern food this city has to offer.

Carmel Restaurant

The history of Carmel Restaurant goes back almost 30 years. During this time, both the menu and style have changed and for ten years now, the restaurant operates as a Glatt kosher restaurant. This restaurant serves a variety of traditional Jewish and Hungarian cuisine from matzo ball soup and liver to beef goulash and a Hortobagyi-style pancake.

Locals and guests from around the world come to dine at Carmel Restaurant and enjoy the authentic food and inviting atmosphere. It is located in the heart of the Jewish quarter and a perfect place to stop by while exploring the historic area. Many travelers also come to the Carmel Restaurant for Shabbat where they can enjoy fresh Challah and a delicious warm meal. If you’re in the area and want amazing kosher food, this is a spot you don’t want to miss.
